For over 40 years our goal has been to be an exceptional resource for the amateur and professional cook. La Cuisine is a unique and independently owned store in the historic district of Alexandria, Virginia. The combination of our limited space and our natural inclination forces us to edit our selections to products that are simply the best, not to be confused with the most expensive. When researching for suppliers, we look only for the highest in quality and best value for the dollar. We prefer to deal with independent, small suppliers, and have also included some unusual artisans who produce unique products. We pride ourselves on having a larger stock of truly useful tools than the big chains carry. Some of the manufacturers we carry include: Mauviel, Messermeister, Shun, Sabatier, De Buyer, Pillivuyt, Econome, Piral, Vic Firth, Lodge, Microplane, Combrichon, and Le Jacquard to name a few. Featured artisans include Betsy Cukla of Hammersong, Martin Merkle Springerle, Roger Martin Salad Bowls, and Panel Chocolates. And of course, one of our most sought after items is the hilarious poster by Roger Blachon which we call "Chaos in the Kitchen".

The Cuisinettes have accumulated many years of experience in cooking and baking, and specialize in using the ingredients and tools that we carry. Even more important than having the right tools is the knowledge of how to use them. We are very happy to answer your emails, and indeed wish to become your cook's resource. To that end, we have tried to include as much helpful information about each item as we can in our online catalogue, so that when you click onto the copper pans above you will get the help you need.
We update our site frequently, so check back often for new items and information. Click onto our TLC icon for care and maintenance instructions, and utilize the Cuisinette Recipe section, which is ever expanding. Be sure to check out our Upcoming Events for classes, special events, and Saturday tastings. Enjoy browsing through our "A La Carte" archives, as each issue is both entertaining and informative. And lastly, we hope you will visit, read, and comment on our Cuisinette blogs, which offer a sneak peek behind the scenes at La Cuisine.
