beginnerxmasSign up for Katrina Tines'  Beginner Cookie Decorating Class.  This is her most requested class just with cookies for Christmas. This hands-on class  will give you time to prepare and practice, because, as you know, once late fall hits - WHAM - all of a sudden, it’s the holiday season! Let her know if there is a particular technique you want to learn.  She does some outstanding short workshops at La Cuisine as well.  

There are specific decorating techniques for Christmas themed cookies that Katrina will teach you, and she will work with you on how to use luster dust and dragees together to create sparkly effects. 

Your swag bag will include  not only a detailed instruction booklet, but also a 6 piece Merry Christmas  cutter set (Bell, Snowflake, Reindeer, Christmas Tree, Holly Leaf), some Christmas decors and dragees, Christmas gel paste colors and tubes,KATCLASS and of course, squeeze bottles- as you can never have too many of those. Plus you will have a box of your decorated cookies to take home.  And Katrina’s sugar cookie recipe is delicious

The store will open at 9:30, and class will start at 10:am. Bring an apron and wear comfortable shoes.

September 30, 2017 - HERNAN SHOWS US WHAT A REAL MOLE IS

mole rice and beansHernan's hot chocolate from Mexico is a big hit in the shop. But did you know that  Isela Hernandez has developed a recipe for a fabulous mole paste.  Mix with chicken broth and use it as a sauce for shredded roasted chicken, enchiladas, or as part of filling for empanadas.  This is spicy and yummy.  We're serving it today with roasted chicken and red rice from the Carmargue in France.  Both her mole and mole pipian will be discounted 20% and so will this unusual nutty rice from France.  

This is an oh-so-easy meal in a jar which can feed a fair number of ravenous people. The first time we had a tasting, we sold out within two hours.

October 07, 2017 - LARISSA'S STELLAR HONEY SELECTION FROM ABRUZZO, ITALY

We took seriously the requests for unusual honeys. and chose several that had lovely aroma and taste, with a unique finish.  We looked for small producers who could delivery monfloral varieties (very difficult in the US) and also did not add extracts to produce floral flavors.  

Larissa picked several outstanding honeys from different countries for you to try; and the Lupinella and Orange Flower Honeys from an Abruzzo based family of beekeepers are unique in flavor and provenance. 
Both are monovarietal, unfiltered and organic.  The Icanarelli family, whose firm is called ADI Apicoltura, has 1500 hives, which are moved from field to field throughout the most incredible parks in the Chieti area of Abruzzo.

Stop by to taste these favorites in Larissa's Honey Quest.  They both will be discounted 20%.    List price for both is $16.00 and today they are priced at $12.80 for a 8.8 oz jar.

October 14, 2017 - SICILIAN MARZIPAN & PISTACHIO CREAM WINDFALL `FOR FOR SUBLIME DESSERTS

marzipanWe had a windfall from our supplier of the to-die-for Marzipan and Pistachio Cream from Sicily Both products were made by Stramondo (whose main focus is ice cream and pastry). Cash in on these two gems while the supply lasts.

 

Here is the long ingredient list. The marzipan has organic almonds and cane sugar. Period. Their Pistachio Cream is organic Bronte pistachios and cane sugar. That's it.  You can use it instead of almond paste with incredible results.

Use the marzipan  in a wonderful cake from Diana Henry's new book, Simple or in Nancy''s Sicilian   pistachio creammarzipan ice cream.  You can use 6 ounces of the pistachio cream instead with equally yummy results.
