| | September 4, 2010 - THE CUISINETTE VERSION OF HAMBURGER HELPER | While most of you know that the Cuisinettes love to cook together, you may not be aware of the lengths we have gone to in our quest for improved details. We all love a good hamburger, and have pretty much achieved our version of perfection. Believe it or not, we have also done extensive research to find the best hot dog, and after many "gourmet" samplings, Nathan’s won hands-down. We then moved on to the "fixin’s", and challenged ourselves to try to improve upon the old stand-bys. As you all prepare for your Labor Day cookouts, we think you need to re-visit your condiments. Today you can test our selections for yourselves. We will be offering tastings of our new Fallot Dijon Mustards from France in classic, tarragon, seed style, and green peppercorn. Our mayonnaise choice is from Delouis, and our grand coup was the discovery of an organic ketchup at the Food Show three years ago. Nancy doesn’t "do" ketchup, but we convinced her to try this one, and now she’s a believer. This is a product of Spain, and has a very complex, full flavor, without being overly sweet. We are confident that you will all enjoy these improvements to your grilling favorites.
Tasting will be held from 11:00AM until 5:00PM. There will be a 20% discount on all tasting related items.

| | September 11, 2010 - A QUICK AND EASY PASTA DISH | Even though Summer isn’t officially over, most of us have had to settle into the back-to-school, back-to-work routine. When that time comes, it’s even more important to have some quick and delicious meals up our sleeves.
For today’s tasting, Nancy will create just such a dish for you. She will be combining her favorite Campofilone Pasta with our meaty and flavorful Porcini mushrooms. You can be sure that she will add a few other goodies from the store shelves, and whatever she puts together is guaranteed to be delightful. It will be worth your time to stop in and try some

| | September 17, 2010 - OLD TOWN BOUTIQUE DISTRICT SCAVENGER HUNT | La Cuisine is very excited to be included as a member of the newly established organization Old Town Boutique District . We have joined up with many of our fellow independent merchants here in Old Town Alexandria to offer you, our loyal clientele, an array of discounts, tastings, and celebrations when you make the trip to visit us.
During the weekend of September 17-19, in celebration of the organization’s third anniversary, OTBD will be giving away more than $5,000 in gift cards and gifts from participating merchants during its Second Annual Scavenger Hunt. The first place prize winner will receive $2,800 in gift cards -- $100 from each participating merchant. Twenty-eight second place winners will each receive a $100 gift card from a participating merchant drawn at random. To qualify for the drawings, shoppers must collect stamps from each of the 28 merchants between Friday, September 17, and Sunday, September 19. No purchase is necessary to receive a hunt card stamp. Download your card from the OTBD site link above.
In addition, The Cuisinettes have picked out a great little gift that each of you will receive from us when you give us your passport to stamp. We hope you will come down and make a day of it. |
| | September 18, 2010 - A LEMON COUSCOUS TASTING | Now that we have finally located a superior couscous, Nancy has been inspired to create many different wonderful dishes with it.
One of our favorites is a lemon couscous that she makes by combining our Moulins Majoub Preserved Lemons with the Couscous and spices. Simple to make, and quite tasty. We will be serving it today for our tasting and hope you can join us.
Tasting will be held from 11:00AM until 5:00PM and there will be a 20% discount on all tasting related items. |
| | September 19, 2010 - JUST FOR KIDS COOKING CLASS - TAIL-GATING SNACKS! | Alicia Cherry, a graduate from the Pennsylvania Institute of Culinary Arts, has created a series of classes for children that will teach them to create good food and have fun at the same time. Alicia has taught children cooking skills for several years and is currently an elementary school teacher with Arlington Public Schools in Virginia.
This class will be for kids only from ages 7-11. They will learn hands on basic cooking skills and kitchen safety while creating healthy recipes. The class will be held from 10:00AM until 12:00PM. Today’s menu will feature Spicy Chicken Fingers with Blue Cheese Dip, Mini Pizzas, Bite Size Nacho Cups, Cookie Cutter Pies, and Tropical Fizzy Punch.
All classes will be held at La Cuisine, and doors will open at 9:30 AM and close at 12:30 PM, to allow you some shopping time. The cost for this class is $30.00 plus a $25.00 materials fee, which will include a carry-home bag of useful kitchen tools, and a 15% store discount coupon. All food ingredients will be provided.
The class size is limited to six so each student can get personalized attention from Ms. Cherry. These classes will sell out quickly, so please sign up early. Once you sign up on-line, you will receive an invoice confirmation, and also a confirmation letter from us with links to print out your coupon. We do ask that you mark your calendars with the date, as these are the only notifications you will receive.
*Please note that our minimal space does not allow for us to have parents stay during the class, but there are lots of fun things to do in Old-Town while you wait. The class will begin promptly at 10:00AM, so plan to allow yourself plenty of time to get here. We are unable to issue refunds for class cancellations. Feel free to direct any questions to stephanie@lacuisineus.com. Use this link to purchase tickets for this event! |
| | September 25, 2010 - BOYAJIAN OIL TASTING | We all love the fresh and clean flavors of Boyajian oils. They use cold-pressed methods of extraction and never use additives or artificial colors. There are so many uses for them; as a flavor base in a vinaigrette, drizzled over roasted or grilled veggies or meat, as a marinade or as a yummy addition to pasta or rice. Today you can taste a few of them for yourself. Our selections are the Fragrant Peanut Oil, the Garlic Oil, and the Asian Chili Oil. We hope this tasting will inspire you to create your own flavorful dishes with these amazing oils.
Tasting will be held from 11:00AM until 5:00PM and there will be a 20% discount on all tasting related items. Recipe handouts will be available. |
