Description

We carry the paperback version of this marvelous read by George Taber. In 1976 a Paris wine shop owner arranged a modest tasting as a publicity stunt to introduce some California wines. Only one member of the press, George Taber, a reporter from Time, showed up for the event, but the story he got revolutionized the wine industry forever. Although the judges were all French and insufferably chauvinistic, the American wines won in both the white and red blind tastings. Voila! This famous story became the basis for the film Bottle Shock, but we think Taber's book is a much more riveting holiday read. This is the real story of the wine tasting that humbled the French view of themselves as wine producers, altered the perceptions of consumers, and ultimately helped to open up good winemaking around the globe. And now you can enjoy it with a glass of wine or two!
